Young Banjo Players Wanted!

Grass Seeds Banjo Students

Teaching at Grass Seeds AcademyI’m honored to once again be teaching banjo at the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association’s Grass Seeds Music Academy, a three day mini-bluegrass jam camp designed for ages 8-18 that runs in conjunction with MBOTMA’s Winter Bluegrass Weekend, March 3-5 at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West in Plymouth, MN.

Grass Seeds is designed for all playing levels, no bluegrass experience is required, just an instrument and a willingness to learn! Over the course of one weekend, we cover valuable skills not only on individual instruments, but in lead and harmony vocal singing, arranging songs, jamming and performing. We have the kids form a band on Friday & they perform live on-stage on Sunday!

Grass Seeds Banjo StudentsEvery year, the banjos are far outnumbered by fiddles and guitars, but I would like to change that! If you know an aspiring banjo picker that would like to:

  • Learn to jam & play music with others while making lasting friendships
  • Receive individual & group instrument instruction
  • Attend breakout sessions on singing lead & harmony vocals, playing backup & more!

Please send them this link to learn more and register for this year’s camp:

10 Years of The High 48s!

The High 48s Celebrate 10 Years on Oct. 21st, 2016 at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis!

The High 48s Celebrate 10 Years on Oct. 21st, 2016 at the Parkway Theater in Minneapolis!

It’s kind of hard to believe but The High 48s, a bluegrass band I co-founded in 2006, is celebrating 10 years as a band this year! In “band years” this is probably closer to 40-50 years, LOL!

While I feel the band is just now hitting it’s stride (10,ooo hours?), there is certainly a lot to celebrate about the last decade (hundreds of shows, seven full-length albums, two line-up changes) so we’re throwing a big ‘ol party in my stomping grounds, at the Parkway Theater in S. Mpls., on Oct. 21st!

It is going to be a special night of music, friends and storytelling, all served up with some tasty craft beer, wine and margaritas (from Pepito’s, next door)!

I hope you can join us, here are some more details:
